    A day at the fair

We went to the annual Evergreen State Fair in Monroe, which is only 30 minutes north of Bellevue, last Saturday where we saw many animals and ate some tasty BBQ ribs (a bit ironic, I guess). Isabel was very intrigued by the pigs, sheep, goats, and cows. Joseph thought the pigs smelled really bad, and I decided to stay away from eating pork for awhile.

    Redskins vs. Seahawks playoff game

I was lucky enough to score some complimentary tickets to the NFC West Divisional Playoff game between the Washington Redskins and Seattle Seahawks. I haven’t been in the Seattle area long enough to become a Seahawks fan, but I just couldn’t pass up an opportunity to take the kids to the first ever football game. We had an extra ticket, so we invited one of the neighborhood kids, Shawn, to go with us. He’s a big Seahawks fan, but he has never been to a football game either.

To avoid paying more than $20 for parking, we parked about a 10 minute walk away. Once we got into Qwest Field, the kids were in awe of the size of the place and of the crowds of people (the game was sold out). Unfortunately, they couldn’t see much of the game because everyone (seemingly just in our section) kept standing up to watch every play, and the kids couldn’t see through or over them. By the 3rd quarter, the kids were getting bored and cold, so we left with the Seahawks leading 17 to 10. Ultimately, as we heard on the car radio on the drive home, the Seahawks won 20 to 10 – yay!
