    Had a good workout yesterday

I finally restarted my workout schedule at the ProClub after an unexpected 2 week break since my first workout. I hope to be able to keep this up, but I'm sure work or the kids will get in the way again. Anyway, I used the elliptical machine again, and although the first 5-6 minutes were slow going for me (particularly my legs), I was "in the zone" after that! I felt great! My legs didn't get tired at all, and I had a great cardio workout. I think the few minutes of stretching before I got on the machine must've helped.

After cooling down, I did 50 elevated crunches! So, I only 10 more to go for my near term goal of 60, which I hope to achieve within the next couple of workout sessions.

    My first workout

I had my first workout at the ProClub this morning. Not wanting to pound my body too hard (I haven't done any real exercising for more than a year!), I did 45 minutes on an EFX Elliptical Crosstrainer machine and burned about 400 calories (or so said the machine). This machine is just amazing! I felt absolutely no stressful impact on my ankles or knees, and it was much more fun than spinning on a exercycle. I think that I'm going to alternate between this machine and the StairMaster Steppers.

After cooling off and stretching (I really need to remember to stress a bit before my workout!), I did some elevated crunches and managed to do only about 40. My near term goal (1-2 months) is to do at least 60 after each workout.

While taking my shower, I thought about why this "workout thing" will actually work for me even though I've never joined a fitness club before:
    • I really need it! Many of my pants don't fit or are a bit tight around my waist. I need to lose 1-2 inches there.
    • It's about the only free time I have for exercise, and it's very close to work, and I can actually get ready (shower, shave, etc.) there. It was very refreshing to go to work after my workout and shower this morning!
    • It's practically free (would cost about $80/month without being subsidized by my benefits program).
